Why We Exist--Jesus

Delighted as we are that you are looking through this website, our greater delight is in seeing you enjoy new life in Jesus Christ. Perhaps you have never confessed Jesus Christ as your Savior. There is no better time than now to do this very thing. Life is short and our relationship with God should be something we ponder deeply.

The plan of God’s salvation is simple, even a child can understand it. In fact,  it is so simple that we often miss it!  It is important to start by noting that all of us are sinners. And our sins cause a separation between us and the loving God who created us – this is why so much of our experience in life is unhappy and frustrating. The Bible tells us in Romans 3:23 that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Selfishness and sin is at the root of all family and social problems. Honestly recognizing this problem is where our journey begins.

Our problem is actually worse than we might think.  Not only do our sins cause us frustration and brokenness and not only do they separate us from God, they also put us under His judgment. Our sins offend the holiness and purity of God. And His justice demands a penalty. According to the Bible, if we fail to seek his forgiveness in this life, we will pay for it in the next life. That is why the Bible tells us in Romans 6:23 that "the wages of sin is death." This death is both spiritual and physical.  Hell is real and reserved for those who will not repent and come to God for His forgiveness.  Like stubborn children, we are tempted to go our own way and run from the One who loves us. This will not help us at all and puts us in danger of eternal separation from God.

So what must we do to receive God’s forgiveness?  Thankfully there is hope for sinners, whatever we have done, however long we have gone our own way, and however bad we may think our sins to be. Forgiveness is NOT a matter of joining a church or getting baptized or trying to be good or participating in sacraments or rituals of the church or any of the other ways we try to gain the favour of God. The truth is that God stands ready to forgive us on the basis of Jesus Christ’s death for us on the cross. Romans 6:23 tells us that while the wages of sin is death, "the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Salvation from sin is a FREE GIFT for those who will humble themselves to receive it.

Indeed, we learn in the Bible that "God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). By His death on a cross, Jesus Christ paid in full the just penalty of our sin. That is why before He died He said, "It is finished" (John 19:30). He paid the price we could not pay. God draws us by His Spirit to enter into this  benefit.  Perhaps you sense His Spirit drawing you to the gift of salvation.

Is there anything keeping you from believing in Jesus Christ as your Savior right now? If not, then why not tell Jesus Christ right now of your belief in Him? Receive Him into your life as Lord and Savior. If you are not ready to do so or still have questions, why not contact someone here at Scofield and enter into further discussion.  It is important. And we would consider it a privilege to help you grow in your understanding of these things.  In fact if you are just now choosing to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ for your salvation or if you have questions, then please send us an email . We'd love to follow-up with you to encourage you.

Remember what Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us:  "by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast."
