Getting the Most Out of the Worship Service

Getting the Most Out of the Worship Service

Pastor Jeff VanGoethem

In order to get the most out of the worship service on Sunday, when we come to Worship God, here are ten things about which we should NOT be concerned:

  • The order of service
  • Whether the order of service is printed or not (1 Corinthians 14:40)
  • What songs are chosen for singing (Colossions 3:16)
  • What instruments are employed/not employed (Psalm 33:2-3)
  • What the preacher is wearing
  • What the congregants are wearing (James 2:2-7)
  • How the offering is or is not taken up (2 Corinthians 9:7)
  • Which version of the Bible is used (Hebrews 4:12-13, 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
  • What kind of technology is used to assist in the worship service
  • Who is doing the singing, praying, reading, etc. (Psalm 99:5)

And here are ten things we SHOULD be concerned with:

  • Our sins (Luke 18:9-14)
  • Whether we are spending this time with God willingly (Nehemiah 8:1-3)
  • Whether the Holy Spirit can work in our midst (1 Thesellonians 5:19)
  • The sincerity of our prayers (1 Timothy 2:1)
  • The sincerity of our worship (1 Corinthians 14:24-25)
  • Whether newcomers and lost people are warmly greeted (Acts 9:26-31)
  • Whether our hearts are under God’s Word (2 Timothy 4:1-4)
  • The warmth of the greeting we give to others (1 Thessellonians 5:26)
  • The amount of love and concern we show to others (Matthew 9:13)
  • Whether we have applied the Word of God to our lives (James 1:22)
