A Sunday School / CBS class especially intended for those in their 20s and 30s who are not yet married - the “Scion” class. When studying the Bible in Isaiah 4:2 there is a word usually translated “branch.” As a class, we spent time discussing and learning that the Hebrew word has two meanings. The first meaning has as its referent a young shoot or twig of a plant, especially one cut for grafting. The second meaning refers to a descendant, or heir, of a notable family. Considering the unique dual meaning of the word “scion,” a fuller picture is revealed. When considering different names for the class the name “Scion” was suggested... afterward no other names quite measured up. It was both a name that we identified with and a name that identifies us. We are a part of “The Vine” engrafted by God to bear much fruit, we are a part of God’s family, and we are identified with Christ.
Our prayer is that “Scion” abides in Christ. “My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples. Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love.” John 15:8-9
